Daniel M. Lichtstein, M.D., FACP, Senior Associate Regional Dean for Medical Education and Professor of Medicine for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University Regional Medical Campus (UMMSM at FAU) was recently awarded the William Dock, MD Master Teacher Award in Medicine from his Alma Mater, the College of Medicine of State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center.
The William Dock, MD Master Teacher Award was created in 1985 by the Alumni Association of the SUNY Downstate Medical School in honor of William Dock, M.D., former Professor, Chairman and Dean of the College of Medicine at SUNY Downstate. The award recognizes alumni of the medical college who have made outstanding contributions to the field of medical education and academia. It honors physicians who excel in their profession, and emphasizes the importance of quality teaching in medical education.
The Award Ceremony took place on May 16th, 2009 and was part of SUNY Downstate Medical Centers' Annual Alumni Reunion weekend held at the Marriott NY at the Brooklyn Bridge. Dr. Lichtstein was selected among a large pool of distinguished and highly respected alumni to be the recipient of this prestigious award by the awards committee of the Alumni Association.
Dr. Lichtstein's award comes as a result of his three decades of contributions to the medical field, with more than ten of those years dedicated to improving medical education. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Lichtstein was in private practice in internal medicine in West Palm Beach for 18 years. He then transitioned to the academic realm of medicine as an Associate Professor of Medicine for the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine twelve years ago. Since then Dr. Lichtstein has climbed the academic ladder, from Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, to Full Professor to Associate Dean for Medical Education, to his current position as Senior Associate Regional Dean for Medical Education at UMMSM at FAU Regional Medical Campus.
As one of the Deans and esteemed faculty members of the regional medical campus, Dr. Lichtstein has been instrumental in establishing an innovative curriculum tailored specifically to the regional campus' novel approach to medical education through this public-private partnership. His commitment and outstanding contributions to the medical regional campus and the community has helped countless students to become successful physicians.
We congratulate Dr. Lichtstein on this well deserved award.
