Thomas Genuit, MD, MBA, FACS, FCCM, serves as the inaugural Chair of the Department of Surgery and inaugural Program Director of the Residency Program in general surgery for the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. In his role, Dr. Genuit is aiming to build a state-of-the-art academic department and graduate medical education program with a strong community focus, that will combine the broad-based clinical competencies available at area’s affiliated hospitals, with the pursuit of academic and scholarly excellence through the College of Medicine at FAU.

Prior to joining the College of Medicine, Dr. Genuit also served as the founding Program Director of the Program in General Surgery at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, a member of the LifeBridge Health System and teaching hospital of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, from 2006-2015.   There, Dr. Genuit has also served as the Head of the Division of Trauma, Acute Care & Critical Care Surgery, the Medical Director of the Trauma Program, the Associate Chief of the Department of Surgery, and as a member of the strategic planning board for the health system.

Dr. Genuit is a board certified general and trauma/critical care surgeon, an active member of several prestigious national academic societies, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American College of Critical Care Medicine.
