Healthcare Careers Outreach Program

The mission of the FAU Healthcare Careers Outreach Program (HCOP) is to enrich learning opportunities for Pre- Medical and Biomedical academy students at our affiliated schools in Palm Beach County. FAU medical students, faculty, and staff lead immersive activities facilitating a deeper understanding of medical content, research, and the path to becoming a physician.

HCOP student Neo Nguyen was named Roosevelt Middle School Career and Technical Education Student of the Year for 2016-17 and has been accepted to FAU High School for admission fall 2017!

College Roadshow

Our College Roadshow provides students the tools to successfully navigate the path to medical school. As part of this experience, HCOP students meet with Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid offices, lunch in the dining hall, and tour the campus. An interactive “question and answer” session with FAU medical students is followed by a Gross Anatomy Lab or Simulation Center activity. For many HCOP students, this full-day visit to FAU is their first time on a university campus.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM)

Together with South Florida Science Center & Aquarium and Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Office for Diversity and Inclusion and the College of Education provide Palm Beach County middle school students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of science through our STEAMgineers program. STEAMgineers activities increase students’ understanding of how art and science are connected. Students participate in a school year program and a two-week summer camp. The curriculum engages students in both life and physical sciences using energy as the cross cutting concept. Lessons and experiences are aligned with The School District of Palm Beach County’s science curriculum scope and sequence and FL State’s Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)

Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS)

The goal of our GEMS program is to assist middle school students in creating a personal college roadmap. Beginning in the middle school science classroom, students research desired careers, high school pathways, educational requirements, local hiring companies, and salary levels. Following this research and discovery component, FAU faculty lead a STEM career exploration workshop day that includes guest speakers and breakout sessions with community leaders serving as facilitators and mentors.

FAU High School Female Empowerment and Mentoring in STEM (FemSTEM)

We provide mentorship to female FAU High School students majoring in STEM subject areas. Activities include hot topics in public health and medicine, speaker series workshop, and field trips to the FAU Simulation Center, Anatomy Lab and industry partners.
