Research Distinction Track Review Process

Midpoint and Graduation Submissions and Review Process

A review of RDT student progress will occur at two points: 1) at midpoint of Year 3 in January, and 2) in Year 4 in January prior to graduation. Review and determination will be completed by both the Medical Research and Scholarship Committee (MRSC) and Medical Student Promotions and Professional Standards Committee (MSPPSC).

Midpoint Review

The student must upload and submit all required midpoint review items via the online portal in January of M3.

  • Research Activity Log
    This log provides a report of the additional research activities completed by the student from Year 1 thru Midpoint Review.
  • CITI Responsible Conduct for Research (RCR) Training Certificate
    Current RCR training certificate. This online course must be completed every three years. RDT students must maintain current RCR training thru Year 4. 
  • Independent Research Plan (IRP)*
    *Only required if any amendments were made to the IRP since Initial Submission.

Graduation Review

All final required graduation items must be uploaded and submitted via the online portal in January of Year 4 for a final review and determination of student for “Distinction in Research” recognition.

  • Research Activity Log
    This log provides a report of the additional research activities completed by the student from Year 1 thru time of Graduation Review.
  • CITI Responsible Conduct for Research (RCR) Training Certificate
    Current RCR training certificate. This online course must be completed every three years. RDT students must maintain current RCR training thru Year 4. 
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    Updated CV including all research studies, honors, awards, publications, presentations, etc.
  • Faculty Mentor Graduation Letter
    This letter should objectively review the student's research and include a summary of the student's activities throughout the four years.
  • Other Documentation (manuscripts, poster/ presentation abstracts, etc.)
  • Evaluation of Research Distinction Track and Mentor/Mentee
    Each RDT student and primary faculty mentor must complete the online RDT evaluation prior to the Graduation review (embargoed until after the student graduates).
