PGY-1 Resident Rotations
Neurology
The resident experience in neurology at Delray Medical Center during the residents’ first year includes ten weeks of supervised clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with a wide range of neurological conditions.
Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine
The resident experience in internal medicine and emergency medicine at Bethesda East Hosptial comprises six months in year one. The clinical experience during this time includes assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide array of complex medical illnesses.
Inpatient Psychiatry
The resident experience in Inpatient Psychiatry at Delray Medical Center comprises four months in year one. The clinical experience during this time includes assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide array of complex medical illnesses.
PGY-2 Resident Rotations
Inpatient Psychiatry
The resident experience in inpatient psychiatry at Delray Medical Center Fair Oaks Pavilion comprises six months in year two. During this time, residents assume meaningful and increasing responsibility for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a broad range of adult and geriatric psychiatry patients requiring inpatient care.
Addiction Psychiatry
The resident experience during year two in addiction psychiatry at Delray Medical Center Fair Oaks Pavilion is integrated into the six-month inpatient psychiatry experience, focusing on the evaluation and clinical management of patients with substance use disorders, including substantial exposure to dual-diagnosis cases. Residents have experiences with treatment modalities that include: detoxification, overdose management, and maintenance pharmacotherapy; the use of therapeutic techniques that address the psychological and social consequences of addiction; and participation in recovery groups.
Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry
The resident experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry at Delray Medical Center Fair Oaks Pavilion includes three months during which residents consult, under supervision, on other medical and surgical services. Trainees see a full range of patients of patients, assuming increasing responsibility for the patients and care teams to whom they consult.
Emergency Psychiatry
The resident experience in emergency psychiatry at Delray Medical Center Fair Oaks Pavilion features three months on a supervised psychiatric emergency service. Resident are trained in and perform crisis evaluation and management as well as triage of psychiatric patients.
PGY-3 Resident Rotations
Outpatient Psychiatry
The 12-month resident experience in outpatient psychiatry is split between the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, Rales Jewish Family Services and the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center full time during year three, with 12 months of organized, continuous, and supervised outpatient experience. Each resident treats outpatients longitudinally, from initial evaluation to ongoing treatment of individual pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy patients, some in weekly visits. Residents employ multiple treatment modalities that emphasize developmental, biological, psychological, and social approaches to outpatient treatment, as well as the application of psychosocial rehabilitation techniques for management of the chronically ill. Residents continue to carry a portion of their outpatient caseload into year four.
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Incorporated into the outpatient psychiatry experience, the PGY-3 resident experience in child and adolescent psychiatry includes 12 months of part-time organized clinical experience at Rales Jewish Family Services. Supervising faculty members have current ABPN certification in child and adolescent psychiatry. Residents participate in assessing, evaluating, and treating a variety of conditions in children and adolescents, using a variety of interventional modalities.
PGY-4 Resident Rotations
The resident experience during the PGY-4 year will include rotations with the Health Care District of Palm Beach County and the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, elective rotations and there will be Senior Resident opportunities at our clinical service sites.
Elective Opportunities
Elective opportunities are available on a limited basis during the PGY-3 and PGY-4 years and are scheduled and developed based on the trainee’s interest.
