Welcome to the Florida Atlantic University Neurology Residency Program. The program is a four-year categorical ACGME accredited adult neurology residency program. As faculty, we are committed to training outstanding neurologists in the depth and breadth of neurology.

Our home base is the Marcus Neuroscience Institute/Boca Raton Regional Hospital in beautiful Boca Raton, Florida. The Marcus Neuroscience Institute is a very unique facility, in which the clinic space is on the first floor and the neurological intensive care unit and operating rooms are on the second floor. Cutting-edge stem cell translational research is also housed within the same building.

During the PGY-1 year, residents spend four months with the neurology service carrying a small number of patients. The majority of the PGY-2 year is spent on the inpatient service. From 8 AM until 5 PM on weekdays, residents take call as part of our comprehensive stroke program. After 5 PM and on weekends, a tele-stroke service provides stroke coverage.

There is no in-house call; residents take home call. Each evening, residents typically field a handful of calls, but are generally able to rest at night and arrive refreshed the next morning. In addition, the Neurology team does not admit their own patients. Patients are admitted to the internal medicine service and are seen in consultation by the neurology team. In this manner, the patient census and duty hours are kept at reasonable numbers.

During the PGY-3 and PGY-4 years, residents supervise and teach the junior residents, and participate in outpatient clinics and electives.

Throughout residency, there are opportunities to participate in clinical and/or basic science research. Our residents have won research competitions, published in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting.

We are committed to preparing our residents, not only for clinical practice, but for success on the board examination. In order to achieve this, we have instituted weekly board review sessions.

Overall, we are a small department with a very busy clinical practice. We are dedicated to training residents in an environment in which they will thrive.

Good luck with your interviews.
